The Greek Life and Cuisine

Blessed with a Mediterranean climate, rich soil and abundant seafood, Greece is known worldwide for food that is both fresh and flavourful.

For thousands of years, Greek cuisine has been built around two ideas: the freshest possible ingredients and simple preparation. This is the key reason why Greek cooking is considered one of the healthiest diets in the world.

Blessed with a Mediterranean climate, rich soil and abundant seafood, Greece is known worldwide for food that is both fresh and flavourful – from a simple salad of cucumbers, tomatoes and feta, to the unmistakable taste and smell of grilled lamb chops, to the creamy flavour of Greek yoghurt with honey. In fact, it was Archestratos who wrote the first cookbook in history in 330 B.C.
Part of Greek culture for thousands of years, “good living” combines good food and fine taste for a life filled with positive energy and well-being. The idea originated with Plato and the ancient philosophers, and it is as vibrant now as ever. Even today, when you sit down at any Greek table, the first order of business is to raise your glass and toast all present with a robust “to your health!”

FAGE is proud to be part of that Greek heritage and tradition. Our yoghurt is made by the same Greek family using the same recipe for over 85 years and has become a cornerstone of the Greek diet.

The Greek yoghurt

There is nothing like the taste and versatility of Greek yoghurt.

In recent years, the world has discovered what the Greeks have known for centuries – there is nothing like the taste and versatility of Greek yoghurt.

Naturally rich in protein and low in fat, Greek yoghurt is a world away from what many people around the world know as “yoghurt”. That’s because Greek yoghurt is strained, resulting in a thick, creamy yoghurt. This thick strained yoghurt, is high in protein and contains fewer carbohydrates.
True to the Greek heritage of fresh ingredients and simple preparation, plain Greek yoghurt is the most popular type of yoghurt in Greece.

Try it and you’ll see why. Few foods are as delicious or as versatile. In Greece, it is eaten at all hours of the day. Tossed with cucumbers and garlic, it is the traditional dish of tzatziki, and a perfect complement to lunch or dinner. When it is drizzled with honey, plain yoghurt is a simple, yet indulgent dessert.

FAGE’s Greek recipe strained yoghurt is part of that heritage and versatility. When you eat FAGE yoghurt, you’re part of the ancient Greek tradition of “good living”. Cook with it, and you’re bringing the healthy Mediterranean lifestyle into your diet. Enjoy it, and you’re enjoying more than great-tasting, nutritious, all-natural strained yoghurt. You’re enjoying a tradition and lifestyle that dates back thousands of years, one we’re proud to call our own and pleased to share with you.

For people around the world, FAGE yoghurt is more than Greek yoghurt. It’s part of life. And we invite you to make it part of yours.

How strained yoghurt is Made.

FAGE’s Greek recipe strained yoghurt is an extraordinary source of nutrition. Made with a family recipe that dates back to 1926, it contains no added sweeteners, thickeners, preservatives, powdered milk, powdered cream or powdered protein. Just milk, cream and live active cultures to create all natural FAGE yoghurt. Because it is strained, it has more protein than other yoghurts. A delicious yoghurt made with all natural ingredients.

FAGE’s yoghurt is naturally produced from cows' milk and live yoghurt cultures. The FAGE straining process means that 4 litres of fresh pasteurized cows’ milk go into each kilo of FAGE’s Total yoghurt. Next, we add our very own live active yoghurt cultures – produced at our facilities. This helps create the signature FAGE taste.

Finally, our straining technique removes all of the watery whey from the pasteurized cows’ milk, leaving you with only the thick, velvety texture of creamy FAGE yoghurt.

It is made the Greek way – with all-natural ingredients and simple preparation. It is like no other and its unsurpassed taste and texture have made it the ambassador of Greek yoghurt worldwide.
